Cambodia visa options explained
Tourist visa, ordinary visa, e-visa, visa on arrival or visa exemption? Here's how Cambodia's main visa options work and which one fits your trip.
In this guide
Cambodia offers several ways to enter, depending on your nationality and the purpose of your trip. Rules can change, so always confirm current requirements on official government websites before you travel.
Visa exemptions
Citizens of several ASEAN countries can enter Cambodia without a visa for a limited stay. The permitted length varies by nationality. Check the current list before you travel.
Tourist visa (T-class)
- For: holidays and sightseeing.
- Validity: usually a single entry for a short stay, often 30 days.
- Extension: typically extendable once for a limited period.
- How to get it: e-visa online, visa on arrival or a Cambodian embassy.
Ordinary visa (E-class, often called a business visa)
- For: business, work and longer stays.
- Validity: usually a single entry for a short initial stay, often 30 days.
- Extension: can be extended into longer-term options such as business, job-seeking, retirement or student extensions.
- How to get it: e-visa (for some nationalities and purposes), visa on arrival or an embassy.
E-visa
The official Cambodian e-visa allows you to apply online before you travel. You'll receive the visa by email and present it on arrival. Use only the official government website; lookalike sites charge extra fees.
Visa on arrival
Available at international airports and many land border crossings. You'll need a passport, a passport photo in some cases and the visa fee. Have the exact fee in US dollars ready.
Which should you choose?
- Holiday under a month: tourist visa or visa exemption, if eligible.
- Business or longer stay: ordinary visa.
- Unsure about your plans: an ordinary visa offers more flexibility, but check the rules.
Other requirements
- Passport valid for at least six months from your arrival date, with blank pages.
- Some travellers may need to complete an online arrival form before travel.
- Proof of onward travel may be requested.
Tips
- Apply for your e-visa well before you travel.
- Print a copy of your e-visa.
- Don't overstay; penalties apply.
