Flying into Cambodia: airports and routes
Cambodia's main international gateways are Phnom Penh's Techo International Airport and Siem Reap Angkor International Airport. Here's how they compare and how to plan your route.
In this guide
Most international visitors arrive in Cambodia by air. The country has three international airports, and choosing the right one can save you time.
Techo International Airport (Phnom Penh)
Phnom Penh's new airport, Techo International Airport, opened in September 2025, replacing the old Phnom Penh International Airport. It's the main gateway to the capital and the south of the country, with flights from regional hubs across Asia.
Best for: Phnom Penh, Kampot, Kep, the south coast and the Mekong region.
Siem Reap Angkor International Airport
Opened in 2023, this airport serves Siem Reap and the Angkor temples. It lies a considerable distance from the town, so allow around an hour for the transfer.
Best for: Angkor and northwestern Cambodia.
Sihanoukville International Airport
A smaller airport near Sihanoukville with domestic and some regional flights.
Best for: the islands and the south coast, when flights suit your route.
Typical routes
There are few or no direct long-haul flights from Europe, North America or Australia. Most travellers connect through regional hubs such as Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Seoul, Doha or Dubai. Routes and airlines change often, so compare options when booking.
Open-jaw tickets
Many travellers fly into one airport and out of the other, for example arriving in Siem Reap and leaving from Phnom Penh. This avoids backtracking.
Overland alternatives
Cambodia can also be reached overland from Thailand, Vietnam and Laos by bus or private transport.
Visas on arrival
Check visa requirements before you travel. Many nationalities can apply for an e-visa online or get a visa on arrival at international airports. Confirm current rules on official government websites.
Tips
- Check which airport your flight uses; Phnom Penh's airport changed in 2025.
- Book airport transfers in advance if arriving late.
- Keep small US dollar notes for transport and incidentals.
Frequently asked questions
Which airport should I fly into first?
If Angkor is your priority, fly into Siem Reap and leave from Phnom Penh, or the reverse. This avoids backtracking and makes the most of a short trip.
Can I fly into one airport and out of a neighbouring country?
Yes. Many travellers enter Cambodia by air and leave overland into Vietnam, Thailand or Laos, or the other way round. Check visa requirements for each country.
