Description

As CSI enters its 12th season, the team is still recovering from the fallout from the Nate Haskell case several months after its completion. Ray Langston has been let go and a new CSI supervisor, D.B. Russell, played by Ted Danson, has been hired. The Las Vegas crime lab also welcomes another new addition, a young CSI from Los Angeles and Ecklie's estranged daughter, Morgan Brady. The team must build new relationships as they solve cases that include a multiple homicide on a Vegas tram and a "Strangers on a Train" type case where numerous suspects who seem to be unrelated confess to murdering a family.

I LOVE CSI from Vegas. Danson is good but I have always loved and miss Grissom. They should bring him back at lease for one episode.
  • Still fresh and still good

Still my favorite tv series. Ted Danson seems to have finally perfectly filled the role left by Grissom. Even if not equal (and this is a good thing) both characters have the same role, and make episodes really fun to watch.
  • Danson...maybe the only reason to watch

I like Danson a lot but he's one of the few things about this show that i still like. The cases have become predictable and corny. That being said I'm still watching episode after episode. CSI is still something to watch but not even close to what it used to be.

Ever since Helgenberger left, I feel as though the show is going downhill. Other than that, it is ok.
  • Ted Danson is just what the show needed

Talk about thinking outside of the box when they casted Ted Danson. Nobody can replace Grissom, but Danson does a good job of carving out his own character instead of trying to blindly fill Will Peterson's shoes. People have brought up that he is funny, and, yes, he is. However, what makes his character work as the new CSI supervisor is that he backs up his humor with gravitas. He may be funny, but he is not flippant. Under the lightheartedness, he displays a tenderness and protectiveness that makes you wonder what his character went through in Seattle before he came to Las Vegas. That being said, the humor is a great counter for the dreariness that often accompanies crime-solving shows. Don't get me wrong, though -- he isn't just the funny man or the nice dad. He plays the role of the demanding boss pretty well, too. And speaking of new cast additions, I do like Morgan Brody - the young female CSI - as I feel that role of the talented, young female rookie has been MIA ever since Jorja grew out of it. It's a nice addition to balance Sanders, and having more young cast works well to highlight the father-like qualities of Danson's character. The recent addition of Elisabeth Shue to replace Marg Helgenberger doesn't have me as excited, though. Her performance tends to be a bit wooden on the show. All in all, Danson as the new night shift supervisor has reenergized the series for me. I took a break from it after Grissom left because Lawrence Fishburne did nothing for the series, but the show has been good enough this season to keep me watching every week.

In most cases, taking off fitting actors and adding new ones to take their place doesn't work (for example, Criminal Minds, which has regained some of their viewers when they renewed their contracts with two of their main characters). I feel as if Ted Danson was rushed onto the show just because Marg Helgenberger wanted out. Now, they have Elisabeth Shue and I just don't see the chemistry here. I'm not judging whether or not they're good actors, but I don't feel comfortable with this updated cast.
