Description

Fry, a young Everyman, finds himself accidentally transported 1,000 years in the future. Just like right now, life in the future is a complex mix of the wonderful and horrible, where things are still laughable no matter how crazy they get. And against a backdrop of pesky aliens, exasperating robots, and malfunctioning gadgets, people still struggle with the same daily anxieties of life and love . . . and, of course, traffic is still a nightmare! In the fourth season, Bender faces execution when he fills in for the murderous Santa robot; Leela finally learns the truth about her parents and her own identity; and The Planet Express crew finds itself pitted against the cast of the original Star Trek when an energy creature seeks to determine who is more worthy of his fanatical devotion. Matt Groening (The Simpsons) is creator and executive producer of Futurama.

  • Possibly the greatest cartoon of all time...

…and here's why. First of all, it's hilarious (duh) but that's not what makes it great. What makes it great is its ability to balance meaningful emotion and hilarious comedy at the same time. It didn't seem like it at first, but it's become more clear in the last two seasons. Just watch Love and Rocket. Or Time Just Keeps On Slippin'. Or Where the Buggalo Roam. Or Jurassic Bark. They all have hilarious plots, but at the end, there's some emotion that makes it even better to watch. That's what sets this show apart from most cartoons. It may be that they were trying to be funny by putting the emotion in there, but it comes across as serious and relatable. No cartoon has ever done anything like this, (as far as I know. For all I know there may be millions of others) and that's what makes it special.

Godfellas (episode 8) is probably one of the most meaningful cartoon episodes I have ever seen. After you watch it, you think to yourself, "Aww noice! Good episode!" But then you watch it again some time later and it hits. "Oh my Binary God! I now understand!" I had a mini epiphany the other night while writing a paper for my theology class. The memory of this episode came to mind. I rewatched it- and I now understand everything. The writers are brilliant. Pure genius in some of them. Now, if you have no idea what epiphany I am talking about, watch this episode. If there's been a doubt in your life about "Who's up there" it will all make sense.
